Trail Estate is a welcome addition to the mix of craft wineries in Prince Edward County. The boutique producer is certainly one to watch as the Sproll family and winemaker/vineyard manager Mackenzie Brisbois conjure up great things from the estate vineyard in the County and likeminded growers, such as Ed Hughes and Craig Wismer. Case in point, this rich and flavourful Chardonnay that’s expressive and enjoyable. Judicious use of French oak barrels and extended aging on lees has added to the impressive concentration and complexity of this soulful Chardonnay. There’s nothing glossy or showy here, just appealing texture, balance and length that makes for an impressive white that’s ready to drink now and will evolve nicely over the next two to four years. Recommended.
